Some helpful guidance around the use of common exception words.

What is a common exception word?

Common exception words are words that do not follow the common phonetic spelling rules children learn.

Many of these exception words are used frequently, hence the use of 'common' in the name. Kids are normally introduced to common exception words in their first year of school. In order to get expected age related standards children need to be able to read and spell most of the common exception words for their year group. Please find attached the list for your child's year group and help them to learn these words.
