Involvement in sport is an essential part of each child's development. At Busill Jones Primary School we aim to offer a wide variety of opportunities for children to try different sports, encouraging each individual to extend his or her ability and develop their teamwork, perseverance and communication skills.

From Reception, children have PE lessons where they begin to develop physical skills. We encourage the children to develop confidence and control of the way they move, and the way they handle tools and equipment. We give all children the opportunity to undertake activities that offer appropriate physical challenge, both indoors and outdoors, using a wide range of resources to support specific skills. In KS1 the children engage in a variety of learning activities which include dance, gymnastics and athletics. They develop agility, balance and coordination and begin to build skills which can be applied in a variety of different sports.

As children move up through the school, their PE lessons introduce invasion games, striking and fielding games and racquet sports. During these lessons the children develop skills and techniques, learn the rules and experience playing: football, netball, hockey, rugby, athletics, tennis, cricket and rounders.

Here at Busill Jones, we realise the importance of teaching our children how to swim and be safe around water. Every child in KS2 is offered swimming lessons as part of our PE curriculum. Children begin swimming lessons in Year 3, and continue to Year 6 with the aim of swimming 25 meters unaided. Currently, each Year 3 and 4 class receives 14 swimming lessons over the period of one term. Year 5 children receive 18 swimming lessons and Year 6 receive a minimum of 12 swimming lessons, with a further 12 lessons available for top-up swimming lessons.

At Busill Jones Primary we encourage sport participation and offer many sports clubs as a result. We are pleased to offer a range of after school clubs this term. Our extra-curricular clubs programme includes opportunities for children in year groups 1 to 6 to develop skills, improve their fitness and have fun getting active! Keep up to date and decide what to join in with by looking at our Clubs List.
